After your chimney has been swept and is deemed safe (smoke evacuation check) we will issue you an industry standard 'Certificate of Sweeping'. This proves to your INSURERS that your chimney/flue has been swept professionally and according to the NACS code of practice.
On average each year over 30,000 properties have chimney fires. This is mainly due to not getting the chimney swept at the correct frequencies and using the incorrect burning fuel.
The National Association of Chimney Sweeps offer the following guidance:
- Smokeless Fuel: At least once a year
- Wood: Quarterly when in use
- Bituminous Coal: Quarterly when in use
- Oil: Once per year
- Gas: Once per year
Its also worth noting that wood stoves with a flue or chimney liner do need to be swept, not to do so could prove to be a costly mistake. For safety and efficiency, regular sweeping is essential to remove deposits from the flue that can build up and cause a serious problem. If you’re not sure if your flue or chimney needs sweeping please don’t hesitate to get in touch for some advice.
